ASTER is currently the oldest Québec astronomical observatory. It has been in operation since 1976 and makes astronomical knowledge accessible to the general public and schools. To ensure its survival, ASTER has diversified its mission and developed a series of science workshops for primary and secondary schools in Quebec and Canada.
The workshops explore different dimensions of science and technology; astronomy, using portable planetariums and a series of telescopes, the scientific approach, using light, space exploration, the chemistry of the environment and climate change. Events have been conducted in the field since 2011. Tools for observing the sun and the night sky are used in seminars conducted on location in cultural venues, at festivals, campgrounds, etc.
“Head for the stars!” A journey in time and space.
ASTER offers you a brand new bilingual exhibition that will take you for a journey in time and space using its new 406 mm (16 inch) telescope. Seminar presentations, audio-guides and interactive pads, adapted visits for children 4 years and up are all part of the offering.
